MoFo - Worms in Dirt

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

How very Halloween creepy. For the Worms in Dirt I used slightly mashed cooked black beans for the dirt and a veg dog cooked and sliced into pieces to make worms (surround by lettuce and shredded squash).

Here are a few crafts that I did this weekend with my grandkids. The theme for our kid party was Spiders.

MoFo - Orange You Spiky

This is a cupcake with chow mein noodles covered in frosting and dandies for eyes.

For complete instructions visit Orange You Spiky

Below is what I gave my daughter "Earthy" today. I decorated a casket with decorative paper and spiders. I made her a Halloween card with a haunted house, and bought her the clown from hell that sounds like an evil laugh when you press his belly.

MoFo - Orange Pumpkin

Instead of carving a big pumpkin I decided to carve an orange so it would be more of a kid size craft. To make it even healthier I served some fresh fruit inside.

Below are the goodie bags I gave my grandkids today.

MoFo - Spider Web Pizza

Making a spider web with cheese seemed like it would be easy. The original idea came from a magazine that used string cheese as the web. I used daiya but since we aren’t use to cooking with daiya it didn’t melt very well. It is the idea that counts. After the web we added more cheese and a few other things and put it back in the oven.

MoFo - Monster Mouth

I used an apple for the mouth. I cut the top and bottom off then cut a wedge out of the middle. For the teeth I used dandies (with peanut butter as the adhesive). This was a great treat.

Below are the Halloween cards that I made for my grandkids...

MoFo - Mashed Boo-tatoes

Russet potato ghosts with sweet potato pumpkins. What a cute idea and so easy. I cut a corner off a zip-lock bag, put the potatoes in, and used it like you would an icing/pastry bag to squeeze the potatoes on the plate. For the ghosts I added black peppers for the eyes and for the pumpkins I added a small bit of parsley for the stem.

MoFo - Frozen Ghosts

Super easy. I cut a couple of bananas, put them on the end of a plastic spoon, then put them in the freezer for a little bit. After an hour or so I took them out and put raisins dipped in peanut butter for adhesive as their eyes and mouth. The original idea asked for chocolate chips but since we didn’t have any we decided to use raisins instead.

MoFo - Yummy Mummy

Momma Veg here… I will be taking over this blog for the next 8 days with what I like to call “food crafts”. When my grandkids come over we always do a craft. It is a great bonding time for us. They always enjoy it and I’m always coming up with different things to do with them so they don’t get bored. Since Halloween is coming up (along with MoFo going on) I decided to investigate different things we could create with food. Most of them are extremely easy and something kids will appreciate, especially if they can eat it afterwards. I hope you will visit us every day to see what we have come up with.

Veggie Hot Dogs
Fettuccine noodles
Couple of black beans

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Texas State Veggie Fair. It had a great turn out and the weather was nice even though it was a little muddy from the rain storm very early in the morning.

First up was the Fried Food Competition. I would have loved to have had some of the fried banana pudding...

Second we visited all the food sampling..

Next, we saw all of the great exhibitors...

Last but not least is the food for sale...

Don't forget the raffle....

and the great goodie bag..

MoFo - Spiral Diner

Dear Spiral Diner:

I love you.

Sincerely,
EarthyVeg

Spiral Diner really is good vegan eating in Dallas & Fort Worth. While I was in NYC, Philadelphia, & DC a couple of weeks ago I still didn't find a place I enjoyed more. I ordered nachos a few different places to see if I could find any that came close to the Nachos Supreme (which were featured on this blog this month). Only one came close. It really is nice to have such a great vegan place to eat in our city. Thank you Spiral Diner.

Here is my second favorite thing to order at Spiral. This is the famous Mitch Club. Most people that I see on the internet discussing Spiral usually mentions this sandwich. That is why I finally ordered something besides Nachos or the BBQ Seitan sandwich. I kept hearing such great things about the Mitch Club. They were not wrong. This sandwich is awesome.

I also usually never leave Spiral without a Cranberry Oatmeal cookie. This is by far my favorite cookie. If I lived closer to Spiral I would be in some trouble. If they have cupcakes that aren’t chocolate we usually get one of those as well. (Pictured below are the Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies and vanilla cupcakes with strawberry icing.)
